The latest technology of 3D printing of company Voxeljet can be seen in the movies, and specifically, in the last part of the spy series about James Bond (Skyfall). In the scene where Bond’s car explodes one can see the creation of this great company. In total, there were three models of a car Aston Martin DB 5 created for the film shooting. The model duplicated the original priceless car that was produced in 1960 in the scene where the car is destroyed.

“Propshop instructed us to build three plastic models of DB 5. We could easily print a legendary car in one piece (one part) in 1:3 scale with our printer VX 4000, which can create models up to 8 cubic meters. However, the British took a different model creation way. We needed ensure that the details of it most closely match the original, and in order to show the film in many functions of the car, we decided to build it out of 18 individual components. “said General Director of Voxeljet Ingo Ederer.

After assembling the model was painted and brought to the state when the external differences from the original has been really minor. Even on closer inspection it was almost identical to the original Aston Martin DB 5.
